Joseph Tuggle Lacina - Bio
Joseph Tuggle Lacina is an artist living and working in Grinnell, Iowa. Joe holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture with a secondary concentration in 3D Design from the University of Iowa. Joe received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Maryland Institute College of Art - MICA with a concentration in Painting and Printmaking.
Joe's artistic practice spans a wide variety of materials and techniques, utilizes a bricolage type of construction involving materials such as; kinetic components, paint, wood, and foam. His work takes on the forms of furniture, sculptures, paintings, drawings, installations, videos, and performances.
Joe has been involved in a number of arts organizations over the years. From 2006 - 2016, Joe worked as the founder and Co-Director of Grin City Collective, an artist and writers residency program located in Grinnell, IA. From 2009 -2012, Joe was the Co-Curator and one of the founding members of Extra Extra, an art gallery and performance space located in Philadelphia, PA. Joe also briefly worked at the Fabric Workshop and Museum, as a tour guide, art handler, as well as assisting with installations and documentation. Joe is currently involved in the Grinnell Area Arts Council, assisting with programming, equipment troubleshooting, and renovations.
Joe has exhibited work at LVL3 Gallery (Chicago, IL), Ditch Projects (Springfield, OR), Make-It-Move, Northrup King Building (Minneapolis, MN), and at the Institute of Contemporary Art - ICA (Philadelphia, PA).
Joe currently works at Grinnell College in the Studio Art Department as the Studio Art Technical Assistant.
